Throughout the Primary School, Philosophy for Children (P4C) is incorporated into the academic programme. We live in a fast-paced and ever-changing world. New technologies replace the old; knowledge rests at our fingertips; we are bombarded by truths, half-truths and lies on social media; our world has retained and developed socially pressing problems and we have seen the rise of radicalisation. Philosophy for children (P4C) provides a safe place for children to voice their opinions as well as listen to the opinions of others. The four Cs of P4C aim to create creative, critical, caring and cooperative thinkers. The fundamental principle of P4C is to enter into dialogue within a structured setting. It is within this framework that our children can argue and participate in a communal manner and learn to evaluate their own arguments with regard to social and political life while engaging and acknowledging the points of views of others.

Activities

Our vision for the Music Department is to encourage a love of music; to empower our girls through music; to educate the audiences of tomorrow through musical literacy and to encourage performance - both instrumental and choral as part of dramatic and musical productions. All our girls take part in class music, where the focus is on music appreciation and interpretation, musical literacy and experiencing music through movement and dance.

Choir:

Our girls love singing, so we have numerous choirs to give each girl the opportunity to sing:

Grade 0 Choir; Little Stars Choir - Grade 1-2; Junior Choir - Grade 1 – 3; Senior Choir - Grade 4 - 7.

Instrumental:

As part of the music curriculum, our girls get the opportunity to play various instruments such as Marimbas, Djembe Drums and Percussion. They can also join a Marimba Band, Drumming Band, Percussion Band and Violin Ensemble where they get the further opportunity to be part of a performing music group.

Eisteddfods: Holy Rosary Primary School hosts and participates in a bi-annual Eisteddfod. The girls can choose to do prose, poetry and/or monologues. Our girls consistently do extremely well – achieving Merit (A), Honours (A+), Prestige (A++) and Full Marks.

Concerts:

The Music and Drama Departments co-produce large-scale productions such as the Passion Play, Annual Concert and the Nativity Play, where all the girls in both the Foundation and Intersen Phases get the opportunity to perform.  The Winter and Summer Music Concerts are platforms for performance, where soloists as well as groups have a chance to show off their talents.
